My name is Eglė Markūnienė – a newborn doctor and neonatologist. After graduating from high school in 1984, I enrolled into LSMU, previously known as Kaunas Institute of Medicine. When I was asked why I had chosen medicine, my answer was that I wanted to help people. Today my answer stays the same. At that time I didn't know what it meant to help people. There were many hardships...

In 1991 I graduated from Kaunas Academy of Medicine, in 1994 I finished my pediatrics residency, in 1996 - neonatology residency.

In the year 1998 I started doctoral studies and in 2003 I defended my thesis "Medical, Psychological and Sociological Factors of Breastfeeding".
